The World of Temmuren

Snowed In
Buried beneath an avalanche, in a death trap
  • The group woke to the low rumbling of an avalanche
  • Miro Artifix and Misgnomer were caught in the avalanche and didn’t make it inside
  • Nelsar, Chrys, and Granite made their way through the collapsing building
  • The group found the following additional salvage (yet to be identified):
    • A magical deck of cards, which was being carefully examined in some aparatus
    • A pair of goggles, which seemed to provide Granite with darkvision
    • ~1 metric fuckton of salvage and materials
    • What appears to be a robotic torso (containing an arcanite reactor)
    • Various robotic components and raw materials, both made of the unusual alloy and newer prototypes made of more traditional metals
  • The group eventually made their way to the top of the crumbling building, now buried in snow and found the overloading reactor which had no doubt been scuttled to deny the gnolls their prize and shake this hazardous deathtrap to its foundation
  • Acting quickly, Chrys produced an iron door and Granite covered for Chrys as he dismantled the damaged components and overrode the reactor’s controls to disarm it
  • With this the group secured the remains of the workshop, including the (mostly) intact arcanite reactor
  • In the same room, the group found a secured box containing sets of blueprints, notes, and schematics; half appear to be translations and prototypes written in gnomish and half in an unrecognizable language on the schematics the gnomes appear to have been deciphering
  • Chrys read off a project name written prominently on one of the note pages: Sprite
  • However, Granite corrected him. Looking at the original page being translated, he recognized this one word from somewhere: Slyph
  • With this the group had everything they had come for and could complete their contract with the gnomes and claim whatever salvage they hauled away from this ordeal, but at what cost, with their compatriots lost to the snow?
Puzzle Hubris and Plant Stalking
The group is stumped by a puzzle, then chases a stump
  • Thursday composed a message to send to Tora, which was sent via Mubaj casting sending:
“Queen in danger. Night Hag draining Queen from Ethereal Plane. Seek Greater Restoration spell. Super sorry about old man disguise. Hug kisses oh no sorry”
  • The group awakened from their rest in the cave, and messaged Tora to warn her about the night hag
  • Rhuul investigated the puzzle box and ran fleeing in terror after seemingly solving a piece of it
  • Oliver pursued Rhuul to attempt to calm her, while Thursday attempted the puzzle and was promptly turned into a variety of creatures over the course of 60 seconds and lost control of her body
  • Upon Thursday regaining her body and mind, she and Oliver returned to the cave to find Pav missing for a few seconds, before they re-appeared
  • Pav informed the group they had been transported somewhere after solving a part of the puzzle and Oliver identified this as likely being a part of the Astral plane
  • Shortly afterward Mubaj received a reply from Tora:
“Thanks, working on it. Whatever you did, the storm’s clearing up! We might make it through this yet! Found the spade of the earth yet?”
  • Rhuul was given one more chance to tinker with the puzzle cube, to no avail, before the group gathered themselves and headed inland
  • After a while following the old, untrodden path, the group ascended a hill into a wooded grove and found a clearing with an auspicious hole in the ground where a tree used to be, and a variety of dragging marks leaving a clear trail headed East
  • The group followed this trail East, down the hill, across plains, and to the Eastern cost of the island, beside a cliff to the north overshadowing a cove.
  • As the group approached the coast-line from a hill, the spotted, past a drop off to the north, an uprooted tree in the boggy waters of the cove, surrounded by gnarly plant life
  • Out past the cove and the rest of the coastline, Thursday and Rhuul examined a sunken ship just off the coast, some 150 feet away, and determined it to be a ship from the Elven capitol, seemingly scuttled here in recent months
  • Oliver identified some of the plant life in the bog within the cove to be foreign and unsuited to this cove, and theorized they could likely be 1 or more shambling mounds
  • Thursday opened fire upon the mounds in the cove from the hill and Oliver supported with crossbow fire at the edge of the drop-off
  • Their attacks drew the attention of something hiding in the wreckage of the ship, which cast a Storm Sphere over the group and hit Thursday with a bolt of lightning
  • As the shambling mounds retreated out to sea, the party retreated out of the range of the Storm Sphere, with Barry taking up the rear and being stuck by a massive arc of lightning
  • Protected in part by his aura, Barry deflected the brunt of the blast and was spared the worst of its damage, but took a hard hit all the same
  • With the group safely out of range of the Storm Sphere, they take a moment to regroup and assess the situation
  • ( Pav and Rhuul still need to make an 18 STR save or take 6 bludgeoning from buffeting winds while in the Storm Sphere )
We Brought a Zoo
If we can't become one, we'll bring one.

  • Party checked cave
  • Wild giant crocodiles appeared
  • Giant crocodile returned to its original form
  • Oliver used Suggestion, it was super-effective
  • Giant crocodile uses rollout
  • A wild Night Hag appeared, it wasn’t very effective
  • Sea Hag fainted
  • Night hag ran away
  • Party was victorious
  • Party leveled to 7
How to Get A Head in Gnomish Engineering
Arcane and dangerous discoveries
  • The group proceeded to investigate the precarious gnomish workshop and found it to be structurally unsound, debris falling from overhead, and structure creaking, permeated by a low humming
  • Chrys found:
  • Granite found:
  • A large piece of metal ceiling, which he is carrying as total cover
  • Misgnomer found:
    • A strange tuning fork
    • An ornate and intricate collar, featuring small inlaid arcanite crystals.
  • Nelsar took shelter outside and observed the workshop
  • The group found the doorways of the structure are sturdy and can provide some shelter against falling debris
  • They also found that staying near the walls of a room can provide some safety against collapsing structure on higher floors
  • A storm is gathering overhead, and the structure looks like it may collapse if they wait out the storm
  • Observing from outside, Nelsar found collapses can be anticipated by spending a minute observing a room and up to 2 adjacent rooms with a perception check to determine if they’re about to suffer a collapse
Spear Fishing
Some nasty fish people try to make the party catch of the day
  • Some Merrow had the gall to attack a water bender and their Draco-saur in their territory
  • Thursday water walked on melting ice after falling out of the boat
  • The Merrow Gulliver’d Rhuul down to the surface of the sea, and then Pav turned the sea beneath her to put her back on her feet mid stride to make their escape
  • The group evaded the Merrow and made landfall
  • There they met a wary elven woman sheltered in a cave on the shore, who looked like she haven’t seen food or civilization in quite some time
  • The Merrow pursued the group to shore
  • Thursday engaged her finger guns from behind the upturned boat, firing volleys at the Merrow
  • Rhuul devoured Pav’s catch of the day and then the duo survived more harpoons than Mobey Dick
  • Oliver found that shatter is surprisingly effective at making mutant merfolk tuna
  • Barry did his best Terry Crews impression and blocked, blocked, blocked, while Mubaj gave meager assistance from behind the boat
  • After felling over half the Merrow, they retreated back to the sea, leaving the party triumphant, but tired in the shore
Poking Out the Eye of the Storm
Got yer broom!

  • The party charged to meet the Bheur hag in battle, with the banshees wailing in the distance behind them
  • The Bheur hag took to the sky on its greystaff, casting down ice storms to harry the party, as they returned volleys of errant crossbow fire
  • Closing just into range Sister Thursday crowned the hag with a magical circlet that sent the creature into a rage, focusing on the newly revealed Rhuul Rheleghast
  • Rhuul came about, attacking the hag with tooth, claw, and the parties boat, bringing all to bear
  • In the confusion Pavillio “Harbinger of the Storm” struck, stealing the hag’s greystaff with a thornwhip and mounting up mockingly upon it
  • Upon this turn of tidings, Pav noted the banshees approaching from the eye wall of the blizzard and called out to the rest of the group
  • Without its staff to escape, the party descended on the hag in full fury, ending it swiftly before Rhuul made a meal of its cold, leathery hide
  • As the banshees approached, Mubaj, True Apostle of Gruumsh cast a quick prayer of healing, while Rhuul and Barry the White took up the front line to meet the banshees
  • Again, Oliver and Thursday fired the opening volleys, unleashing a fireball, eldritch blasts and other spells
  • Rhuul and Barry met the banshees’ charge as their ranged support felled the weaker of the 2 targets
  • The remaining banshee’s horrible visage shook several of the group, causing Thursday to incinerate another change of clothing and a layer of ice, before taking stock of this problem and calming herself
  • Thursday and Rhuul brought more damage to bear and while it was reeling near final death, before it could bring its powers to bear on the party, it was finally felled by a mighty gleaming blow from a visibly shaken Barry, who collapsed on his haunches after the fact.
  • Thursday examines the storm and determines from her knowledge of things hag, magic, and meteorology that as long as this was the only one controlling the storm, it should dissipate on it’s own in the span of some few hours
  • The party then began to debate their next move
Through the Ice and Flurries

  • Brought oni body back to Induin Tawar
  • Thursday started sleeping on the roof because the voice(s) told her to
  • The group finds out from Tora about the elves’ sacred grounds on the island and “The Spade of the Land”, which sealed the drow and unseelie fey
  • The group questioned the oni’s body and confirmed the oni and its allies are conspiring with others to restart an ancient war and kill the elves.
  • The group made plans to weather the storm and make their way to the sacred grounds to retrieve The Spade of the Land, travel to the sealing tree, and restore life and power to it and the forest.
  • Oliver sent a message to the rest of the guild, updating them about the situation:
    • Evil actors are attempting to destroy the world tree, free the drow. Causing famine, plague, blizzards here. Attempting to alleviate. Elves not much help, unsurprisingly. Cheers!
  • As the party prepared, they were summoned once more by Tora’s personal guard, to find Tora was visited upon by visions in the night, and has been falling ill to these portents for some time.
  • She warned the group that something knows they’re coming, and the group perceived that whatever plucked this information from her mind has been slowly killing her
  • The group determined they must go, and asked for help gathering supplies before heading off into the storm
  • The townsfolk mustered what supplies they could to equip the group, and an elder elf woman provided Pav with a pack full of potions of water breathing for safe passage.
  • The group made their way out onto the ice and rigged up a row boat to Rhuul as an allosaurus (with barkskin, water walking, longstrider and invisibility)
  • Riding out onto the ice at high speeds, the group was beset by sounds that Thursday IMMEDIATELY identified as 2 banshees closing in on the group
  • After ~40 minutes of travel through the driving storm and worsening visibility, the banshees appeared suddenly, incapacitating Barry the White, Oliver, and Rhuul.
  • Rhuul recovered, catching Thursday, Mubaj saved Barry, who recovered Oliver, and the group sped past the Banshees towards the eye of the storm
  • After some healing and racing away from the banshees (for 3 minutes), the group entered the eye of the storm and saw a frozen-looking humanoid standing at the center brandishing a staff of grey wood
  • Behind them they heard the wails of the banshees still in pursuit as their situation intensifies
Out of the frying pan and into the ice box
From rescue mission to salvage mission
  • The group met and debriefed Winona and Takota, the hostages turned werewolves
  • After a rough skirmish with gnolls near Freehold the group was separated from the werewolves and made their way back to Pioneer Outpost
  • After getting updates from the guild, Simon Vardar stormed off and the group met an entertainer magician named Nelsar
  • Along with their new acquaintance Nelsar, the group was convinced by the gnomish refugees from the north to retrieve their valuable research for salvage rights to the rest of their workshop
  • The group headed north to make good on their deal, but were harried by a blizzard and a pack of polar bears
  • After defeating the bears, the group interrogated one of them and discovered they were organized by “Big Boss Bear”
  • Finally, the group arrived at the unstable workshop, rejoined by Misgnomer, who warned the group of falling debris
Sister Thursday's Journal: Induin Tawar and Catching a Predator

From the hand of a Sister Thursday Twenty-Fifth,

Writer’s Formal Title: Day 237. Fourth Week of Eighth Month, Scribe and Scholar.
Date (MM/DD/YYYY): 06/31/2017
Location: Induin Tawar / Sea of Trees
Province: Induin Tawar Proper
Path: Unmarked path branching from Western Gate, Veld Nuin Drive towards the town of Garen
Landmark: No significant landmarks passed, mile markers seem inconsistent. Walk to and from took approximately 8 hours for a group of seven peoples.
Events Summary:

  • Party entered Induin Tawar, and were almost immediately requested to visit the Queen Tora (First of her name, may quills etch her legacy)
  • Unfortunately, I made a fool of myself.
  • Party was informed on several matters we could assist with:
  • Frost conditions abnormal for the current season — seems mostly centered to city
  • A banished ward of the former King (May the scholars write him into memory) was presented as the afflicting party. Presumed goal was revenge on the noblefolk of Induin Tawar and violent seizing of the throne.
  • Ships have been sealed into the harbor, cutting off trade and emigration from the beleaguered capital.
  • Children have been getting stolen from the city.
  • Strange iron toys given to children.
  • An ancient artifact was given to the elves by the party. The artifact appears to be mechanized seed-spreader from ~300 BF. Workmanship seems consistent with Sleeve-Tree movement common to that era. (See Illustrations pamphlet p.38). Potentially a solution or aid against the famine.
  • Party decided to pursue the kidnappings first. Thus Far, there are no discrete figures for total number of kidnapped children, but I may at least record the names from the names into memory (May ink give them peace): Aust Fellowkin, Barbara ‘Bar-bar’ Willow, Phaniel CosVunten, Numerion ‘Numie’ Turner, Elena Turntrunk, Lorraine Last-of-Quiver.
  • Pav was brave enough to pose as the child in question, followed closely by Oliver and Thursday.
  • When a potential kidnapper was confronted giving these iron toys to children, Oliver was able to enchant the being into guiding us to its lair.
  • Party follows target into the woods
  • At a crossroads, a soldier is found in the woods, later revealed to be an Oni in disguise.
  • Combat ensued. Details are muddy, but suffice to say that the combat was long and difficult. Much in the same way as was over dramatically spoken at the Spokes; ‘First, steel flashes. Then, memory.’ That having been said, this has less to do with flimsy excuses for war crimes and more to do with how panic affects recollection.
  • Oliver, Sister Thursday (Author), and Pav mutually struck a killing blow to one of the two Oni. Mubaj pointed out just too late that we needed a subject for questioning. Second target had fled
  • Second target was pursued. Singularly by Rhuul in the form of some kind of horrible, bipedal lizard. I do not have a proper classification due to both the speed with which Rhuul took off as well as it being unpleasant to look at
  • As a group, the remainder of our party continued in pursuit.
  • We later found out that Rhuul was in solo combat with the Oni for some time before being placed under the effects of Charm Person. When asked for comment on symptoms and after effects, subject experienced a lack of the most common symptoms (Nausea, disphoria, pressure in the lower elemental nodules of the brainpan, scaleitch, verdenting of vision, or a waxing of the importance of promises)
  • Subject did report a positive sensation of peace and calm.
  • “For one hour. Just a little while. There wasn’t anyone or anything that needed to be killed or trying to kill me.”
  • Secondary party made contact with Rhuul while under Charm Person. A fight was sparked which ultimately resulted in the Enchantment running its course. Deep relief was had by all when Rhuul was able to confirm her identity and inform us about the rest of her encounter (See bullet above).
  • Body of slain Oni was secured by the party and then secured with rope. Brought back to city for reporting, recording, and studying. This scholar is unfamiliar with the fey genus and thus….must consult other scholars.

Frantic fight by moonlight
Oh shit, Chrys was right
  • Party hears howl from inside fort after reaching it
  • Misgnomer is concerned about the prisoners and Chrys is convinced they’re being turned into lycanthropes
  • Simon rushes to the door and unbars it.
  • The group opens the door, finding a werewolf over some broken stools, dead bodies, and shredded ropes
  • Chrys spots a smaller side room in the fort and rushes to investigate, finding a second werewolf who traps him in the enclosure
  • The first werewolf turns on the party, attacking Granite and Miro Artifix
  • Simon lands what should be a deadly blow, but it does not find purchase well and he flees into the dimly lit night
  • Chrys uses a potion to escape onto the wall, before being pulled back down with the werewolf
  • Misgnomer enters the room and stares down the werewolf
  • In a resulting moment of confusion, Chrys breaks free before the werewolf climbs over the wall and rushes off to the south
  • Meanwhile, Miro and Granite wear down the other werewolf and finish it off with Chrys’s help
  • Misgnomer, who had fallen into a trance for the remainder of combat, rushes to stabilize the no-longer-a-werewolf after they fall unconscious, having reverted back into the form of one of the prisoners spotted by Chrys, Miro, Misgnomer a few days prior.
  • Simon is attacked in the dark by gnolls, fells one and is downed by arrows
  • The rest of the group hears werewolf howling to the south
  • Granite reverts to humanoid form and says that he hears gnolls on the hunt to the south
  • Chrys asks where Simon is and Misgnomer points to the south with urgency
